A/N: I've got no excuse this time around... Does being lazy cut it?:)) Obviously not. I'm sorry. It's just that I didn't particularly feel comfortable with this chapter so I had to retype it around three times.
Falling in Love with Pink
Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto.
Warning: OOCness
Summary: Hyuuga Neji was now stuck to playing boyfriend to Haruno Sakura because of a certain incident concerning a lot of sake, Yamanaka and Uchiha Sasuke but as far as romantic stories go, he was beginning to like being stuck with the pink-haired beauty.
Rating: T for implied adult themesXD
He supposed he looked utterly pathetic right about this moment… and that was what he felt as well.
Hyuuga Neji; esteemed jounin, nominee for ANBU, was ass drunk while walking the streets of Konoha at what he guessed, a few hours after midnight, though really couldn’t trust his instincts at that particular moment.
Before getting this slurred, he was sure that he had looked as every Hyuuga should, filled with pride and dignity… And at this moment, he felt full all right… Full of crap.
What kind of man couldn’t even woo the woman he loves from the man who left her on a god-damned bench? He remembered it like it was yesterday… As a matter of fact, it was just yesterday, but seeing how wasted he was right about now, he figured that even remembering why he was here was an achievement in itself.
Stumbling slightly, he still managed to regain his balance. But not long after… he fell… he fell just like what happened to him with Haruno Sakura.
“I loved you.” Neji.
“You used to.” Sakura.
“You’re wrong… I still do.”
“Stop the wedding!” It was possibly the cheesiest thing Sakura’s ever heard in her entire lifetime.
That could be part of the reason why her heart fluttered the moment those words had sailed through the air. Or was it probably because Hyuuga Neji looked even more handsome when he was so ruffled up?
However, Sakura remembered that she was marrying Uchiha Sasuke and not Neji. She unwillingly tore her eyes away from the panting but still good-looking man.
“I’m in love with Haruno Sakura!” He shouted outloud, making her turn her head towards him once more and half the room gasp.
This must be a dream and tomorrow, she would wake up to her wedding day. Neji wouldn’t even be there during the ceremony, giving them his best wishes and congratulations. He’d be at the Hyuuga estate enjoying himself. It was what she was used to… what she wanted him to do. It was far less painful to think about.
She didn’t want him to suffer the same heartbreak she did before he had mended it. She didn’t want him to be sad. It made her heart ache just thinking about it.
“And I have already been betrothed to her. I love her with all my heart and I refuse to sit back and watch while she gets married to that man.” He continued, pouring a huge amount of guilt and pain into her heart. It didn’t help that he was practically stomping his foot on his pride just to say those words to her.
She had to find a way to make him hurt less. She owed him at least that much. And she knew there was only one way for that to happen…
“I’m sorry Neji but I ha-- I want to marry Sasuke.” And it was said with a heavy heart.
“The Uchiha or the Hyuuga?”
“Do I really have a choice?”
“No… you don’t.”
Shizune remembered walking the sterile halls of Konoha hospital in search of the resident medic, Haruno Sakura, just a few days before today… before the day she became Uchiha Sakura.
She usually spent most of her time here, even on her days off. She had worried both her and their mentor that she would one day collapse due to overworking herself but thankfully that never happened.
Shizune reached the end of the hall and took a peek at the nurse’s station. And sure enough, Sakura sat there; half-asleep, her head on top of different medical charts. She sighed. It was the fifth time she found her like this, usually she’d have spilt a large cup of coffee by now.
“Sakura.” She said gently, so as not to shock the overworked medic. She heard her mumble a bit before her eyes fluttered open. Stretching as she stood up, she turned to look at Shizune, “What can I do for you today, senpai?” She asked cheerfully.
Oh good lord. She didn’t want to do this… But she had to. It was orders and it was better if she found out from them rather from the source of the problem himself, “Sakura, Tsunade summoned you.”
She saw her look puzzled for a moment before nodding, “Hmm… Must be a mission. haven’t had one of those in a while. I think I’m going to enjoy this!” She said with a determined voice and proceeded to jump out the window and start off to the Hokage Tower.
Shizune frowned. Well, judging from the stories she’s heard about the medic about her past, she was an Uchiha fangirl. Who knew… she might enjoy this… but judging from the way she looked at Hyuuga Neji, her fragile heart might break once more.
“Get married to Uchiha Sasuke?” Sakura said with a bewildered expression.
A nod.
“I’ll do it.”
Neji felt like he wanted to throw up. Well, since his room reeked, he supposed he already had. It was just then that he noticed he had been relocated to his room. He remembered falling asleep outside on the cold hard pavement after the… wedding.
How could he forget? His ex-fiancee had gotten married just yesterday. So meaning that night… the night he had been so drunk that he couldn’t form a coherent word let alone a sentence, she’d be experiencing her wedding night. And it wasn’t their wedding night, she was all on her own with that bastard of a man.
It made him angry to the point that he growled loudly.
A knock had disturbed his chaotic thoughts and temporarily pacified the white-eyed man’s anger. As much as he’d like to blame the first person he sees right now, he didn’t want to be seen as an ass.
“Hyuuga-sama, your uncle’s called for you.” A servant.
“Of course. I’ll be right there.” He replied, his voice cool and calm except for the fact that it contained a somewhat icy edge.
He walked across the room and into the bathroom and shed his clothes. Stepping into the shower, he couldn’t help but think that this was exactly what he needed, another dignifying talk with his uncle. He knew that no matter how much he favored Sakura as a daughter-in-law, Hiashi’d never let that display of humiliation pass without punishment.
After taking a short shower, he proceeded to his uncle’s study. While walking, he saw the carpet that he and Sakura had found themselves entangles with each other just a couple of months before. Such fond memories they were… and memories they shall only be.
Entering the room without knocking, Neji saw his uncle sitting on a futon while drinking a cup of tea, showing every bit the clan head that he is. It only meant that he was in for a harsh punishment. Perhaps his uncle will make his training even harder than before? If so, he didn’t mind. It would only help take his mind off Sakura and her now possible Uchiha family.
“Nephew…” Hiashi started, “I saw your… act yesterday.” He said as he placed his cup down on a coaster and looked at him.
Neji silently hoped for something so harsh that he won’t live to see the next day.
“Doing something so… undignifying…” Well, that hit home. Neji had to admit, doing something so stupid had done something bad to his pride, but hey, what if she accepted his proposal, “You… made me proud.”
…
…
…
…
Neji blinked for a moment.
For the first time in months, Neji was surprised by someone other than Sakura. His uncle looked like he wanted to laugh at his shocked reaction that he wondered if he was being to obvious.
“Sometimes saving face isn’t the right thing to do Neji.” Hiashi explained it simply. No complicated words, no punishments, no upholding the Hyuuga clan’s dignity.
“Being with Sakura has clearly taught you something valuable. Therefore, I’ve decided, that you can take on my position with or without a wife.”
