words from the poem

The poem is called The Phoenix By D. H. Lawrence (1885-1930)

OOooOO

Why can’t they just leave me alone! They sent Storm. And I said no. THEN they sent Rogue AFTER I said no the first time! Why can’t they understand that I don’t want to come back to the mansion! Not after what I did. I killed so many people. Hell, I killed Scott! Living at the mansion would just bring more pain.

“Sugah, it don’t matta’ now. Yeh, the Phoenix killed Scott. But not yah. Yah ain’t the Phoenix. It jus’ lives in yah body. If dat were true, all mah phsycs would be meh. Rogue would beh lost foreva.”

“Rogue, I already told you I am not coming back. I have no control over the Phoenix. I will never be just Jean ever again.”

“But Jean, the professor helped meh control mah phsycs. He can help yah to!”

“Rogue I am sorry but I’m not coming back.”

Rogue sighed as she started to fly over to the window. Its hopeless. The gal just won’t give it a chance! But then she got an idea. She stopped flying and started to repeat the words from a poem she knew by heart.

The Phoenix. Ba’ (by) D. H. Lawrence.

Are you willing to be sponged out, erased, cancelled,

made nothing?

Are you willing to be made nothing?

Dipped into oblivion?

Jean are yah just goin’ ta stay here and let the Phoenix take ova’?” She resumed the poem.

If not, you will never really change.

The Phoenix renews her youth

only when she is burnt, burnt alive, burnt down

to hot and flocculent ash.

Then the small stirring of a new small bulb in the nest

With strands f down like floating ash

Shows that she is renewing her youth like the eagle-“ She stopped.

Then Jean muttered the last two words under her breath, “ Immortal bird.

Jean started to take in what Rouge was saying. Maybe she should come back. It wasn’t like anyone would miss her. Sometimes she would have to be escorted to class by the police because sometimes when there was some kind of mutant attack, the collage kids would want some ‘mutie’ to blame. Them she made her dissension.

“Alright Rogue. You convinced me. Mutant Manor here I come!”

Rogue ran over to her friend and hugged her. “Come on. Ah’ll help ya pack!”

OOooOO

Ok so I was wondering if maybe I should write a sequel to this. You know. Want happens when Jean finally goes back? What about Rogue and Remy’s wedding? Leave a review and tell me what you think!

Until next time,

CaNdY
