Whisper in the Darkness

Chapter One

"Luna?!" a voice echoed in the shadows.

"Give up, dude, it's almost dawn and we've been up all night," someone else said.

The dark hedgehog that had spoken first looked at his fox companion with sullen blue eyes.

"But...but, Espin, we can't just leave her alone out there."

Espin looked at him sympathetically.

"We'll keep looking later, Aaron. It's real late," he said reluctantly.

"Are you guys ok over there?" a girl's voice called out.

"Aaron's insisting on searching some more," Espin explained, leaving his friend's side to join the group's remaining members.

He felt their eyes on him, and he looked away.

"Why don't you let him?" the purple hedgehog asked softly. "Luna was his best friend. We all liked her- but she was special to him."

"I hear you guys over there!" Aaron shouted. "Acting like Luna's dead! 'She was' and 'We liked'! Well, she's not dead and I'm gonna find her!" He turned and sprinted down the sidewalk, enveloped by the darkness.

"I'll go after him," a rabbit offered. Her golden coat seemed to sparkle in the moonlight, just as her eyes sparkled with hope.

"We should all go, Meadow," Espin sighed. He started running, and the others followed, each thinking what Aaron had tried desperately to deny.

What if we never see Luna again?
