Chapter 5

Well I know I’ve been the WORST in updating, but here it is! I’m still alive and finally chapter 5 is here. I hope this won’t disappoint, personally I’m not too proud of this chapter.

Chapter 5

Previously, Jaden was desperate in trying to figure out whatever it is that he doesn’t understand about Alexis. Although he managed to turn her incredibly sour face into a smile, he had also managed to fail in confessing his love to her for the second time now. But now as he stares at the next photograph, it was different. Alexis was smiling, she didn’t have that sad expression like on the previous photographs, but then again Zane was also in this photograph. It was Zane’s last day in Duel Academy, but it was also the day that Alexis and Zane gotten closer. But to make it worse, HE was the one who bought them closer together!

That would probably be his second biggest regret after not confessing to her. Now the poor brunette can only suffer through his misery

“If I knew then what I knew now I ever would’ve done that.” He thought as his gut began to feel horrible.

The room suddenly turned dark again as Banner made his entrance again.

“Well now here’s your chance to fix it Jaden!” the professor laid his hand on the brunette’s shoulder. “But I must remind you again before you go, don’t keep searching and waiting for the right time. You did that before and it gotten you nowhere now. So just tell her whenever you get the chance okay?”

“Okay! I promise I won’t let you down!” promised Jaden

Banner smiled. “Whenever you’re ready”

Jaden shut his eyes and imagined the photograph in his mind. Then he yelled out the magic word once more “Professor Banner is the coolest!”

Immediately, the familiar blinding light shone again. As Jaden felt the light fade, he also felt heavy, like something was pressing on his back. As he opened his eyes he realised he was facing the ground. He was on his knees and both of his hands were pressed against the ground too.

“What am I doing?!” he called out

Ms Fontaine was standing in front of him.

“Boys in the bottom row, keep your arms still and don’t shake!” directed Ms Fontaine.

Then Jaden remembered. They were in Gym class! Making the human pyramid! And as usual, with his luck he was at the bottom row.

“Ouch! Who’s on top of me?” Jaden asked loudly to nobody in particular.

“Stay still slacker!” yelled back Chazz who was also on his knees. Chazz was right next to Jaden. “It’s hard for me to hold up Chumley by myself if you’re shaking!”

“Uh-oh…” Jaden thought. The person he’s holding up on his back is Chumley! His hand began to shake again.

“Shouldn’t Chumley be at the bottom row?” asked Jaden

“Slacker you’re so clueless! Don’t you remember? Ms Fontaine made us all draw a card to determine our positions before hand!” snapped Chazz. “And you and I are both unlucky and draw the position of the bottom row.”

Jaden could see across him was the girls making their own pyramid. Theirs looked much more stable and they all seem to have happy expressions on their faces. Alexis was there too on the second row from the top. Her face filled with glee.

“So.. Uh Chazz…. Who’s going on top on our pyramid?” asked Jaden again.

Before Chazz could snap at the clueless brunette again for bothering him with questions, Ms Fontaine spoke again with Tyranno next to her. He wasn’t on the pyramid! Not yet…

“So Tyranno, looks like you’re the lucky student today to be in the top row of our pyramid!” commented Ms Fontaine, “Now remember, try to go up as fast as you can to the top of the pyramid. This way you won’t struggle as much since its 4 levels up.”

“No worries Ms! I will use my army arms to get up there as fast as I can!” he assured her. “On the count to three, I’ll go up there! One… Two… Three!”

Tyranno Jumped like a true soldier into the top level of the pyramid, unluckily for him, Jaden’s arms was so wobbly by then that they all fell and the whole pyramid collapsed before Tyranno could make his landing. Instead he just fell on top of the broken pyramid with his face down.

“OUCH!” they all yelled. Ms Fontaine could only slap her forehead in shame. She’s been practicing this with the boys for the whole year and they still weren’t able to do something as simple as that. But luckily she’s an understanding teacher.

“Well you all tried your best! We’ll just watch the girls for the remaining 10 minutes of this lesson.” She directed.

So they all flopped down to the ground and sat as they watched the girls’ human pyramid. They were much graceful indeed and Ms Fontaine was very proud of them. The girls got down one by one carefully and gently.

“Alright class! That was a great effort you all put in. There’s only 2 minutes until lunch break. You can all go get a drink from the bubblers outside the Gym.”

So the students all made their way to the bubblers outside. Alexis took her turn at drinking from the bubbler, she has to use one hand to hold the tap and the other hand to hold back some of her hair from getting in the way. Jaden was in the bubbler next to her. He could see her from the corner of his eyes. He couldn’t stop staring at her. She noticed his stare.

“Yes Jay?”

“Uh, nothing!” he answered back nervously.

Soon, Jaden and the usual gang all gathered around as usual.

“Hey today’s the last day for the 3rd year duellists!” reminded Jesse

“I heard they’re having a competition to see which student is liked the most by the younger students like us.” Commented Jasmine

“My bro would probably win that then.” Said Syrus, “I mean with the fans he have in the girls’ dorm. I think it’s obvious he’d win.”

“Actually I think it’ll be the complete opposite.” Commented Bastion

“Huh?” they all looked at him in confusion.

“Well think about it, he’s not the most social person here since most students sort of fear him. Plus he’d be judged by not only the female students but also the male students and you know how many boy students there are in equivalent to female students. It’s a ratio of 3:1. Plus he’d have to do peer support with the younger students like us and see whether he’s worthy of this ‘Most lovable student’. And well you don’t need me to explain again the fact that he isn’t the most social person here in the academy.”

“You’re right… but I think that may only be a minor threat compared to the other competition” Said Jesse quietly to himself but loud enough for the others to hear.

“Huh? Why is that?” asked Mindy pretty confused by what Jesse said.

Jesse only pointed to the other side of the oval. “That’s the real threat.”

On the other side was another third year Obelisk Blue. But aren’t like Zane, this one was a girl. She wore the normal girl’s Obelisk Blue uniform with her own final touches, a pink cape flowed behind her hanging from her shoulders. She has long golden blonde hair and she wore large hoop earrings.

She saunters across the oval flipping her long hair back with a crowd of pretty much all the other boys in the school following behind her drooling and being fan boys. Her crowd of fan boys was so ridiculously huge that it makes the group of Zane fan girls seem very small.

“Her name is ‘Cameron’. Apparently that’s her real name and she just happens to look like Cameron Diaz. Some says she has multiple surgeries for that.” explained Jesse, “A third year Obelisk Blue. Not a great duelist, but she seems to only accept duels with her fan boys who got ‘mesmerized’ by her looks and then ended up throwing the match.”

“Humph! She doesn’t seem all that great!” Mindy sulked feeling a little jealous.

“Apparently, although she’s extremely popular with the boys, all the girls hate her. Some says its jealousy.” Jesse nodded in response.

“Jealous?! With her?! No way!” yelled Mindy back suddenly

“Chill girl.” Jasmine laughed. “So what’s your take on this Cameron girl, Alexis? She’s like the most popular girl here! I envy all the attention she gets….”

Alexis could only sigh in response. “Well… she may be popular with the boys, but it’s not like she’s all that great at duelling. She’s just weird to me.”

“Well said Alexis! Anyway, Zane would so win the ‘Most Loveable Student’ award anyway.” Jesse smiled.

“Yeah, my bro has this thing that attracts many crowds for some reason.” Laughed Syrus, “Especially the girls!”

“Well you do have a point. He ranks the most popular make student after all” commented Bastion.

They all continued to make their way to the change rooms but Jaden just stood for a bit by himself. That last comment by Bastion really worries him.

“Bastion is right. Zane is the most popular boy in school. And I’m only a Slifer and a candidate for school drop-out! I don’t have a chance at all against him… maybe it is a waste for me to go back in time like this. I’m only going to get rejected again aren’t I?” Jaden sighed a depressed sigh. This thought surprised him too; it wasn’t like him to think such negative thoughts. Then winged Kurriboh appeared to his side again.

“Winged Kurriboh! You’re here! I didn’t know you came back in time with me too!” Jaden yelled in surprise. This was the first time he sees his old companion in a long time. After graduation, he barely have any time to just sit down and look at his cards, often he wonders if his fuzzy friend is still by his side.

Winged Kurriboh made its signature growl and then pointed down to Jaden’s leg causing the confused brunette to look down. The familiar cat rubbed itself against his leg. The cat burped and out it came a small ball of light. It floated towards Jaden’s eye level.

“Pharaoh! Professor Banner! Is that really you?!” Jaden squealed in delight. But the ball of light only slammed into his forehead. It surprisingly hurt a bit.

“Ouch! Hey what you do that for?!” Jaden questioned rubbing his forehead.

The same familiar voice he encountered earlier spoke again. “Jaden! This is not like you at all to think about giving up! It took a lot of energy for me to take you back to the past; I usually would never do this for somebody else! BUT because I knew you’re the type who’d try to make the most out of each situation I decide I would help you out! Please don’t make me regret giving you this opportunity.” Banner scolded.

Jaden rubbed his forehead once more. “Ok professor Banner I won’t let you down!” he promised.”

“That’s what I like to hear! Now go after her and tell her how you feel, I bet Zane hasn’t even told her his feelings for her either! You can’t waste another perfect opportunity!” called out Banner as Jaden began to take off running.

Jaden ran after them to the change rooms. Filled with determination to finally confess his love to her! This time the Slifer will be ahead of the Obelisk! Jaden made it to the change rooms. His face became clouded. Alexis must be in the girls’ change rooms changing. “Maybe to wait a couple of minutes wouldn’t hurt” he thought. After all he himself still needs to change as well. So Jaden went in the boy’s change room and got change.

After a short while, Jaden and the gang all made their way to their classroom. Alexis was walking with Mindy and Jasmine, talking and giggling. Bastion, Chazz, Jesse, Syrus and Chumley followed next to them also talking. Jaden tagged along behind them something bearing heavily in his mind. This was now the time to tell Alexis how he feels. He closed his eyes and opened them again filled with the most determination he could possibly have. The same amount as he always had before every duel. He knew, this time like other duels he isn’t going to lose!

“ALEXIS!” he yelled out loudly making everyone in front of him jump and turned around looking at him with expressions of ‘what the heck?’

“Yeah?” Alexis answered.

“Uh… um… you see…” he stuttered, “Can I just talk to you for a minute?!” he finally blurted out. Suddenly the heavy load in his heart just got heavier. His heart beating ten times faster than it already was. His hands become sweaty, his lips becoming dry.

“Sure.” Alexis smiled, “Jaden and I’ll just catch up with you guys later.” She told the others. The rest of them kept walking and she turned her face to Jaden. “Yes Jay?”

“Alexis… I…” Jaden’s face turned pale. “You see… I…”

“Yes…?” Alexis repeated waiting to hear what else the brunette was going to say to her. Her facial expression turned from curious to anxious to concerned to worried as she watched Jaden’s facial expression. She knew the boy wanted to say something but it seems like the words were stuck in his throat and he was now turning very pale.

Jaden began to sweat heavily. He’s just going to have to spit the words out. ‘Here it goes…’ he thought.

“ALEXIS RHODES I-”

“Wait! I know what you’re going to say!” she screamed out before he could finish his sentence.

Jaden’s eyes widened in shock “You do?”

Alexis nodded slowly. “You’re going ask me whether I could help you clean the corridor for detention weren’t you?” she accused.

“What?!” he objected to the thought in shock.

“The answer is NO Jaden! I’ve been helping you clean it too often and other people are thinking I got the detention as well!” She yelled out as she ran to class.

Jaden stood there dumbfounded. “…What the heck… just happened…?” he asks himself. Then it dawned on him. He just failed another chance of telling her! He kicked the ground in frustration.

“Oh man! Is it really this hard to tell a girl you like her?!” He yelled out in the empty corridor obviously not expecting an answer.

“JADEN YUKI! Is it really that hard for you to make your way to class without arriving late in the middle of the day?!” scolded Crowler who just happened to walked past.

“Um… I was on my way there now!” He flashed a cheesy smile before taking off to class.

He made it to the next class. Everyone was already seated. He snuck in slowly and plopped down to the seat next to Syrus. He looked over to the other side of the room where Alexis sat. She doesn’t seem angry. Maybe she really just didn’t want to help clean up. It’s understandable, who’d want to volunteer to help at detention?

Jaden sigh a relieved sigh and faced the front. In front of them were 2 Obelisk Blue students; Zane Truesdale and the annoying Cameron. Next to them was Chancellor Sheppard himself.

“Well as you may all know, we’re holding a little competition for the 3rd year Obelisks today! To see who is the most loved and adored student! So your classes will be different for today! You will not have your regular teachers. After recess, you will have either one of these two fantastic students to teach you! They’ll teach you about basic stuff on duelling and after lunch you get to have the other student to teach you! Then ten minutes before school finishes, you can all decide who do you think is better out of these two candidates!” Sheppard announced enthusiastically.

The class all cheered happily. Not because of the fact that they’re excited about the idea, but more because of the fact that for the rest of the day, they don’t have to do any serious work.

Sheppard smiled happily and turned to the 2 Obelisk students, “So which one of you want to take them after recess?”

Zane just stood there not really caring. “Whichever. I don’t really care.” He mumbled out.

Cameron on the other hand kept waving to the class like a celebrity would to her fans. She flipped her long hair once more then turned to the Chancellor “I’ll take them after recess; I want to get it over and done with. I have a botox appointment at 2 pm this afternoon. I don’t have time to suck up to these brats all day!” she said still smiling.

Zane turned to her, in shock of what he just heard. Zane knew he was mean to the other students too, but never thought of them as brats, and at least he was upfront about it to them. This girl was two-faced!

The Chancellor made a couple of other announcements before the bell rang for recess. Zane walked out of the room and stared at the window. His mood changing, for once he felt that he was actually nicer than someone. Now he actually felt like he wanted to win this competition!

Meanwhile, Jaden was still sitting down in his seat looking rather depressed. Everyone was already standing up and making their way to recess but Jesse noticed the sad boy and went over next to him.

“Jay, its recess now, it’s not like you to not be happy about it!” he joked. “You’re coming with us?”

Jaden only nodded before sighing ad then getting up. He followed Jesse to the others.

“Hey Jay, why so glum?” asked Syrus who noticed the boy’s sad facial expression.

“You wouldn’t understand.” Was his only answer.

“That’s not like you at all Jay! Tell me why you’re sad. I’m your best friend aren’t I?” asked Syrus with a smile on his face.

“JUST LEAVE ME ALONE!” snapped Jaden angrily.

That was not like Jaden at all. It wasn’t like him to be this angry. He didn’t mean to say that, and to Syrus… Now he feels like the lowest person on earth.

“Ok…” Syrus said slowly. He walked away trying to hide the tears that was flowing down his face from Jaden to see. Unfortunately, Chazz sees it. He turned to Jaden.

“What’s up with you slacker?! Syrus didn’t do anything! Why are you so uptight today?! You’re only 15 and you’re acting like you got things on your mind already!” scolded Chazz.

Jaden could only look away in response. Jaden was really 23 right now stuck in his 15 years old body. He does have things on his mind. Things that no one else could possibly understand. Still, he wasn’t proud of what he did to Syrus at all; it’s not because of Syrus that he’s in this position now.

Alexis noticed what have just happened. She knew that what Jaden did wasn’t a good thing at all. But she also felt a sense of concern, and that someone should probably talk to him. She thought that maybe by having a light conversation with him would break through the problem, if there is even one to begin with. She thought.

“Hey Jay! You seem rather deep lately.” She said with a smile on her face.

He grunts in response.

“What you did to Syrus was mean ya know! You should apologize to him! It’s not like you to be a grumpy bum!” she joked around.

“You don’t know me.” He answered coldly.

“There’s that angry Jaden again! He’s mean! I don’t like him at all!” she joked in a kiddie voice.

“Then why do you like him? He scolds everyone and he never jokes around like I do! But you still chose him!” he yelled to her face.

“Jaden… I was only joking around…” she said nervously, she never saw this side of Jaden before.

“Then cut the jokes! I’m sick of it!” he yelled out. His eyes then widened. He never acted this angry to anyone before, and to Alexis. Those words just came out on its own. He never meant it… right?

Alexis only frowned angrily. She was only trying to be nice, but Jaden was just so unreasonable. “Fine! Don’t worry I’ll never joke around with you again!” she yelled out angrily. She stormed off.

Jaden’s heart sank and his entire body felt numb. What have he done? Is it over?

I am so sorry I wrote Jaden OOC, I meant to make him sound like he’s more serious than before cause he is an adult now and therefore more mature so yeah… Hope it wasn’t too bad…
