Chapter 2

After the initial shock from the news had passed, Ruka Nogi, the best friend of Natsume Hyuuga and the current vice-president to Nogi Enterprises, laughed so hard that it made everyone wonder how he still hadn’t turned blue.

Natsume frowned at him.

An endless ringing echoed throughout the small room but the inhabitant refused to wake up. Even though there was a constant banging on her door.

“Mikan! Wake up, you moron!” The person knocking shouted, undoubtedly disturbed by the offending alarm clock. Well, who would want to be disturbed by an alarm clock at six in the morning on a Saturday?

Hotaru Imai sighed. She was beginning to get a headache with the constant ringing. If that girl didn’t wake up soon she was going to break down her door and force her to wake up.

Hotaru went to the kitchen to fix herself a cup of coffee, god knows she needs it. After finishing that design of a new gadget for her company, it’s only natural for her and anyone else to murder the next person who disturbs her rest.

She unconsciously gripped the mug tightly.

She wasn’t usually an irate person hell, she was calm most of the time to the point of being emotionless. It’s just that Hotaru Imai wasn’t a morning person, or rather to be exact, she wasn’t an anything-person.

“Oh God! I’m late!” Shouts from the other room were heard.

Hotaru laughed maniacally inside her head, “Serves you right.” She said as she placed her mug at the sink and went back to her own room to sleep.

Mikan Sakura, roommate of Hotaru Imai, has woken up and was now bathing so fast that you have to wonder whether she succeeded in actually cleaning herself. After a five-minute shower she ran towards her closet and began to dig for her uniform which, unfortunately was at the very bottom of the pile.

When she had managed to get a hold of her blouse and skirt, she quickly threw it on and ran towards her next destination… work. She may have escaped Hotaru’s wrath but that doesn’t mean her boss is going to go easy on her.

Perhaps jealousy is far too much for best friends…

But if it was, then maybe best friends don’t really exist.

“Mikan this is the third time you’ve been late this month.” A tall man with fiery red hair shot her a look.

Mikan ran a hand through her long brown hair. A small habit she did while she was nervous however her boss found it utterly cute.

Shinji Junsui wanted to smile at his employee, she was just so adorable.

But of course, office relationships were a strain in their work.

At thirty Shinji, or Shin for short, found himself madly in love with one of his employees in his rather large company, a company he had inherited from his late father.

He had no qualms about getting it though. He had hated his father since he was a child. Probably because he had always preferred his cousin over him, a very strange thing for a father considering that he had a very bright son.

Shin at the tender age of thirteen was considered one of the Japanese business world’s prodigies, an amazing feat even so done at a very young age.

It was no wonder he had inherited his father’s large mobile empire.

Shin smiled once more. He was glad he had taken it as well because it had led him to meet his rather ditzy but rather attractive brown-haired secretary.

“I’m sorry.” She said while bowing towards him.

For the first time since meeting her for the day, he frowned.

He absolutely hated it when she bowed to him. It showed how formal their relationship really was and he wanted no such formality when meeting her at all.

“It’s okay Mikan.” He let out a sigh before raking his fingers through his red hair before looking at his twenty-one year old secretary, “But you have to make it up to me.”

Mikan could only smile in return but her eyes contained a spark of happiness that made his insides all warm and fuzzy making him smile back as well.

“Of course!” She said in that cheerful voice of hers.

It really made him want to ravish her that very moment in time even though he knew that it was all so wrong but perhaps, he can make it work.

He wasn’t a prodigy for nothing after all.

“Would you accompany me to that charity ball this Friday?” He asked, smiling all the while when he saw the brown-haired girl’s eyes widened by a significant figure.

“Of course… but…” She bit her lip while averting her eyes to ground making the multi-millionaire raise an eyebrow at her actions, “I don’t have anything to wear.”

The man blinked.

“Oh. Of course.” He smiled at her kindly, “Well then, would you accompany me for today as well?”

Mikan looked at him straight in the eyes, “What for?”

“To find a dress for my date this coming Friday.” He said holding out his hand.

Mikan stared at him for a good few seconds before letting out her brightest smile that day, “Of course!”

She grabbed his hand and off they went riding into the malls of Tokyo.

Love is something that we can’t control…

And yet we still try to…

Mikan laughed at her boss’ joke.

She loved spending time with him. It was as if he was helping her get rid of her problems.

Problems… a very significant word in the life of Mikan Sakura. She had been having problems since the death of her parent’s in an accident involving another couple on their way home from work.

However before her parents died, they forgot to mention the fact that they had left their only daughter all of their debts leaving her with the only option of selling their ancestral home and imposing on her childhood best friend, Hotaru Imai.

She was also one of the reasons how she got a job at Shin’s mobile phone company.

Hotaru had been a successful inventor ever since she had graduated from Tokyo University and she had been working shifts at Shin’s corporation. She had accumulated enough good favors to ensure Mikan a secretarial position at the company.

“Would you like some ice cream?” The thirty year old Shin asked her while ordering for himself a strawberry-flavored one.

“Oh. I simply can’t…”Mikan said while waving her hands in front of her.

Shin only smiled at her and Mikan felt her knees grow weak when he grabbed one of her flailing appendages, “I don’t mind Mikan. Chocolate correct?” His voice deep.

She knew that the man before her had once been quite a spectacle among ladies but, she thought, when he had stepped up into the seat of the chairman, he had to let go of all of his bad habits that would only prove to be quite scandalous to the company’s name.

“Let’s go Mikan.” He walked towards the nearest boutique, pulling Mikan behind him while she still held her untouched chocolate ice cream.

Mikan stopped in her tracks when she noticed the name of the store and she made a sharp turn to Shin, “You can’t possibly be planning to buy me a dress here?” The store was known for its celebrity-worthy outfits and also its celebrity-worthy prices, she can’t possibly afford a dress here.

Shin only nodded before pulling her into the store.

Mikan gaped at the wide array of clothes before her. It was all too much and it was all so gorgeous. She gazed longingly at a pink skirt but her eyes widened at the price tag.

Oh dear God.

“Uhm… Shin… I don’t think I can buy clothes here.” She said slowly, hoping that he would catch the drift without her having to mention anything more.

Shin was talking to the saleslady about what color would suit Mikan before she called his attention. He just raised an eyebrow at her antics and smiled before telling the saleslady to get the girl anything that she wanted and leave the bills to him.

“But… but… I can’t let you do that.” She sputtered towards him before turning to the woman whom she noticed was not even in the slightest bit paying any attention to her but was drooling at Shin’s smile.

“Miss?” Shin said before slightly raising an eyebrow at the young woman who seemed far to deep in her dreams of him to be paying any attention to what he was actually saying.

If Mikan wasn’t so amazed at her boss’ act of charity at the moment, she would be laughing at his strained expression. It was obvious he hated the attention.

“Miss?” He finally snapped at the young saleslady before handing her the platinum card in his hand and turning to Mikan with his usual debonair smile, “Let’s go and see to those dresses okay?” He said before pulling her to the most exclusive part of the store.

She didn’t know if it was the ice cream or the gentleness that she felt when he held her hand but she swore that she could practically fall in love with him right here and now.

Love can’t be bought…

But apparently you can buy things that can make someone fall in love with you.

Ruka swore viciously when his neck tie got caught at the car door.

He was obviously not having the best day of his life.

And the worst part was, his girlfriend broke up with him on that very day when the sun was shining so brightly up in the sky.

It was no surprise when she did but he didn’t think that she would do it so quickly. Their rocky relationship had been the talk of the town for a while now, it had spawned from the rumors of his supposed gay relationship with Natsume Hyuuga.

Ruka winced.

Whatever.

Women who thought he was gay was a big no-no.

And so here he was, walking in the mall searching for a dress for one of his employees whom he had called upon such short notice because of the charity ball he was going to attend this Friday.

How utterly lovely for his dearest girlfriend to break up with him at the time of such a very large event.

Beautiful day indeed.

He held the handle of a well-known boutique having seen one of its designs at the display outside thinking that his very annoying employee would be okay with it decided to buy it.

But, as soon as he had touched the metal bar, the door opened with such ferocity that he was sure only a pro-wrestler could have opened it.

As he lay there on the ground, in a very inglorious heap of jumbled limbs, he looked up to see an angel-faced brunette holding a bunch of boxes seeking for his welfare.

Oh my… Since when were pro-wrestlers so pretty?

And yes, he fell unconscious at the hands of the unbelievably strong Mikan Sakura.

A/N: That settles the second chapter and just to make it up to you... I'll be making chapter two and if things to according to schedule then I can post it next week.

Please tell me what you think of my now seriously unfunny humor.
