Unofficial Engagement

Chapter 1: Our Past

Two kids, a boy and a girl, were still out in the streets at seven in the evening, they had clearly been enjoying themselves and had lost track of time.

The girl had light brown hair and looked to be at the age of six while the boy had dark raven hair and looked like an eight year old. It was rather cute.

“You’re going away?” The girl asked sadly but still managed to smile at her companion.

Her companion didn’t seem at all bothered by the younger one’s current plight, well, they were still young, it’s quite understandable that it still wasn’t in them to be sympathetic unless you were some kind of saint at the age of three.

“Yes, my family’s going to America.” He replied not even sparing a glance at the girl.

“Okay.” Said the brunette, tears slowly falling from her eyes.

The boy, now quite aware of the brunette’s depression was now a bit shaken by the fact that she was crying.

“Oi! Stop crying!” He said rather loudly, startling the poor girl and making her cry even more than before.

“Why are you crying for anyway?” He asked her heatedly. Hell, if there was a wailing girl beside you, why on earth she was crying you didn’t know, wouldn’t you get mad?

“You’ll probably forget me while you’re there!” She hiccupped in between her ear-splitting howls, according to the boy.

“Ugh.” He groaned in frustration, such little things and yet she makes them big, at least big for an eight-year old boy like him.

Her howls became even louder when he didn’t say anything for a few minutes.

“Oi! Oi! Stop crying already! You’re going to disturb everyone. What if I promise you that I’ll come back and when I do, I’ll begin courting you and also that I won’t find a girlfriend once I’m there?” He said, hoping to calm the girl down.

“Will you really do that?” The girl asked, her eyes showing nothing but pure trust in the boy before her.

“Yes.” He said as reassuringly as he can.

“Okay. You promise me that then!” She said, her crying face now replaced by smiles and giggles.

---

“I’ll miss you.” The same brown-haired girl said at the airport as the boy’s plane began to take lift off.

The boy’s mother had been left behind due to some casualties but she was going to follow her son to America sometime soon.

She observed the young girl who was watching the plane fly away.

Then and there she decided that she had some things to plan before her departure to follow her son.

---

BRING! BRING! BRING!

The constant ringing was interrupting a brown-haired girl’s sleep and trust me when I say she wasn’t a morning person.

“Holy crap! I’m going to be late!” She shouted angrily as she ‘accidentally’ dropped the alarm on the floor.

Mikan Sakura, student of Alice Academy, was now late for her bus which was a very big disadvantage.

“Mother!” She shouted throughout their home, her mom was nowhere to be found.

Must be in her room sleeping.” She growled, she absolutely hated the fact that her mother can be late and she can’t.

After a few grueling minutes of running, she had managed to reach the bus just as it was about to leave.

She took a seat at the front, next to a golden-haired boy, whom she usually sat with.

“How are you, Mikan?” The boy asked politely.

Ruka Nogi, half-French and half-Japanese, was her usual companion. They were even mistaken sometimes as a couple by new friends which always seem to begin an awkward sensation between the two maybe it’s because having a relationship was quite possible between them.

When they got to school, they attended to their lockers and attended class.

“Wait, Ruka, what’s our first class for today?” She asked crossing her fingers that it was hopefully not…

“Math.” He replied casually, enjoying the cute expression run through the face of the young brunette.

“Ugh…” She groaned, she immediately knew right then and there that her day was already ruined.

---

When Mikan got home, the house was awfully quiet, a little too quiet for her tastes. She decided to go to her room to change but when she opened the door she immediately began a twitching frenzy.

Inside her room was her mother, along with her friend who was looking at some pictures on her computer.

God, don’t these people know what privacy is?

“Oh hi dear!” Her mother said cheerfully.

“We’ve got some good news!” Her friend said equally cheerful which only meant trouble for her.

“What is it?” She asked cautiously.

“Natsume is going to come back next week!” Her friend said excitedly.

Mikan looked at them dumbly.

Mikan’s mother, Yuka, raised an eyebrow, “You do remember Natsume Hyuuga don’t you? Black hair, cute face?” Her mother said.

“Of course I remember.” She said. “How could I forget?” She mentally added.

“Oh and we got his e-mail address.” Her mother said slipping the piece of paper in her daughter’s hands before going out of her room along with her giggling friend.

Mikan groaned for the umpteenth time that day, things weren’t definitely going her way.

She flopped down on her computer chair.

“Might as well.” She said as she clicked on myspace and began typing the infamous e-mail.

As the page appeared, she suddenly wished that she didn’t open it anymore.

A/N: Again this is based on a personal experience of mine, so forgive me if it’s a little to cheesy for your tastes, as I say, my life is a like a damn soap opera.
