Something to Talk About
Tezuka Kunimitsu watched as his team continued on with their practice. It was another normal day for them and as he watched them practice he noticed the younger Ryuuzaki practice tennis by herself at the other courts.
He observed her... after all, that was what he usually did with everyone. It was a normal occurrence for everyone to see Tezuka sizing up a player by just staring at said player.
Fuji looked at Tezuka and smiled, he looked excited about something.
Contrary to popular belief, someone could actually read Tezuka like an open book and it was no other than Fuji Syuusuke, the tennis prodigy of Seigaku. It was no wonder that you needed a genius to read the ever stoic man.
Fuji smiled as she watched Tezuka Kunimitsu observe their female junior with one thought in his head... "This is certainly going to be fun."
Meanwhile…
A young girl had been practicing as her braids swayed with her movement. Even through the constant hints from Ryoma of him wanting her hair cut she had never had the heart to do so. She was quite fond of her long hair and was adamant on keeping it that way.
She began to jog around the court so that it could help with her endurance. To say she was determined was an understatement. She had a talk with her captain the other day and it mostly went on like this…
Flashback
A taller girl with black hair talked with her while they were having break during tennis practice.
“That was excellent Sakuno-chan.” She said as she took a sip of water.
Sakuno had already made regulars due to a certain want to impress a handsome tennis prince made her determined enough to beat two the upperclassmen.
“Don’t flatter me, Aika-senpai. I can never compare to someone like you.” Sakuno said allt he while blushing.
Aika let out a hearty laugh.
“Oh I doubt that. If your stamina and speed improve I might place you in singles.” She said with a wink.
Sakuno gasped. She had always wanted to play singles but the first time she tried, she ended up collapsing due to exhaustion and she couldn’t even reach the balls in time, that was the main reason why she had only played for doubles for the past couple of years.
“I would really love that.” She said with smile.
End of Flashback
That had filled her with enough hope that she might be one day chosen to play singles.
She glanced around, she felt that she was being watched but continued her practice when she thought no one was looking at her.
---
Tezuka had continued to observe her. Sakuno had been the topic of the girl’s captain for the last couple of weeks and since she was his classmate he was always on one of the receiving ends of her conversations with the women’s captain.
He had heard about how Ryuuzaki Sakuno, the daughter of their coach seemed to take the doubles’ world by storm and how she had improved greatly since her first year.
Of course, this had caught Tezuka’s eye. He had always thought of her as the girl who would remain by the sidelines and watch as Ryoma played his games.
"She has more will power than I originally thought.” He said in his mind as he continued to observe the younger girl as a look of pure determination crossed her face.
---
Coach Ryuuzaki was set to leave for London on this day due to some kind of tournament a friend had invited her to view but she was rather reluctant on leaving Sakuno behind.
Sakuno had insisted she go, saying that she had already promised her friend and that it would be such a waste if she didn’t.
Coach Ryuuzaki chuckled lightly as she boarded the plane. Tezuka and Sakuno had been there to see her off and she was more than a little worried for her grandchild seeing as she would be alone for the next month though she couldn’t help but ponder on why Tezuka had insisted on seeing her off as well, when he didn’t even mention a thing about their team.
She shrugged. She’ll just have to worry about that later.
---
Tezuka was walking Sakuno to school since she had decided to train for the better part of the day. She had insisted on him leaving her since she knew her way around here but he highly doubted that and he would not like to think on what Ryuuzaki-sensei had in store for him once she found out that he had left his directionally-challenged grandchild in the streets.
He observed her walking calmly. She had better balance now than before. He could clearly remember all the times she had stumbled and fell in front of them.
When they had arrived at school they were the only ones there considering it was still seven in the morning and on a Saturday at that. Everyone was still clearly sleeping.
Sakuno had gone by herself to the courts that were officially designated for the girls while Tezuka had headed off towards the locker room.
Once he was changed and ready to go he noticed that there was no one there to play with and he didn’t feel like playing tennis with a wall.
Having no other choice he approached Sakuno Ryuuzaki and found her doing her stretches. He didn’t know she was quite… flexible.
He blinked. There was no time for such thoughts, not even regarding the fact that they are highly inappropriate for him to be thinking about his coach’s granddaughter, and proceeded to approach her. As he got nearer he noticed that he was doing one particular stretch wrong and it was highly important that she do this right or it might result in a very painful cramp. He approached her from behind intending to help with her stretches...
“Ryuuzaki-san, bend over.” He asked as Sakuno blinked at him.
She nodded slowly as a pale pink tinted her cheeks but otherwise complied.
He began to ponder at what had possibly caused the girl to be so shy so suddenly but then he thought of the possible implications of what he had said.
Oh, boy… that truly did sound wrong.
A/N: I hope you like it. As you can see, this is a TezukaxSakuno fic. There are very little stories of this pairing here so I decided to add to the number.
Please review.
Jeje-chan:)
