Title: Superman Gets Sick

Summary: They are the Sons of Ipswich, blessed from birth with a power to get whatever they want, if it didn’t kill them first. Still, nothing could harm them…or so they thought. Too bad one of them didn’t realize that even Superman could get sick.

“Ewww man you look gross,” Reid said as soon as he laid eyes on bumpy faced Caleb. Almost immediately he felt the death glares coming from his two other brothers. The blond shrugged his shoulders in response to their menacing looks, “What? I didn’t know I was supposed to lie to him,” he retorted.

Caleb sat in his bed as his fingers massaged his forehead in an attempt to ease his upcoming headache. Sighing, he looked over at Pogue and Tyler who looked like they were trying to escape from his bedroom. “Tell me why you guys decided it was a good idea to tell him?”

Pogue and Tyler grabbed Reid and pushed the blond behind them. They could sense that Caleb was furious and knowing Reid, he wasn’t just going to back off. Tyler was just about to open his mouth to speak when Reid elbowed him in the ribs.

“Honestly you should be glad I came,” Reid said as he brushed past the two boys and took a sit on the edge of the bed. “Can you believe Tyler here wanted to bring a camera but I… ugh…” Reid was interpreted by Caleb who, with a swift kick, pushed him off the bed.

Pogue rolled his eyes at Reid’s antics but knew better than to say anything. After all he was trying to be the peacemaker, saying anything to Reid would just cause him to act out even more. He noticed Caleb cocking an eyebrow at him and knew he wanted an explanation. “We thought it would be a good idea to bring him because…” he let the words trail off as he looked over at Tyler for help.

Tyler widen his eyes and quickly nodded his head agreeing with what Pogue was saying. “Because we’re brothers. We need to take care of each other,” he concluded, as Reid scoffed in the background.

It was Caleb’s turn to scoff but he couldn’t very well dismiss what Tyler had said. While he hated to admit, they were right. They were brothers. But another thought quickly shot through his head. “So all you guys already had the chicken pox?” he asked, hoping for the negative alternative.

“Well yea…”

“Yeah yeah we did,” Reid snorted cutting off Tyler, as mischievous grin appearing on his face. “So now you just sit back and Doctor Reid will…” Reid was cut short by Tyler who elbowed him in the ribs.

The realization hit him like a ton of bricks. “I can’t believe all of you already had it,” Caleb pouted as he rubbed his hands over his face in desperation.

“Now Caleb, is it really my fault that you were always such a mama’s boy,” Reid taunted, this time earning a smack in the head from Tyler and an elbow from Pogue.

“Reid…” There sat Caleb, his hands clutching the bed sheets and his eyes narrowed. It was obvious he was about to beat Reid into a bloody pulp at any minute.

“Caleb calm down you shouldn’t be getting worked up in your condition,” Pogue said as he moved to restrain the older boy before he could pounce on Reid.

“Yeah listen to him,” Reid snorted as he rubbed the sore spot on his head where Tyler hit him. Still the temptation not to tease his older brother was far too great to control. “Now let’s get you in your jammies,” he teased as he laughed uncontrollably.

His laughter was cute short when Tyler tackled him into the floor. In a matter of seconds, the two were rolling around the floor in a full out wrestling match.

After a couple of minutes of enjoying the show, Pogue cleared his throat in an attempt to cease their actions. “Tyler and me are gonna go now,” he said as he swung his backpack over his shoulder. “But Reid is going to stay and take care of you the rest of the day.”

At the sound of his name, Reid pushed Tyler off of him and stood up. “What why me?” he exclaimed as he narrowed his eyes angrily at Pogue.

Shrugging his shoulders casually, Pogue couldn’t help but smirk. “You’re the one who insisted on coming,” he said inching his way towards the door to the bedroom.

Tyler abruptly stood up seeing where this conversation was going. “Besides this gives you guys some bonding time,” Tyler said throwing a smirk at the awe struck blond.

Before Reid or Caleb could protest the two boys jetted out of the room. The two remaining boys in the room eyed each other carefully. This was going to be one interesting afternoon.

“Nope that sucks.” Click. “That’s boring.” Click. “Re-run.” Click. “Ugly chick.” Click.

Caleb let out a groan as Reid continued flipping through the channels. The blond was supposed to be taking care of him. Instead he was driving Caleb right up the wall, as expected.

Reid had been here for about an hour and half now. The moment the others left, he snatched the remote control away from his hands, claiming he was too sick to pick something good to watch. Since that time he had done nothing but flip through the channels, not setting it on one for longer than a minute.

“Reid, I think I can manage picking out what to watch.”

“No, you can’t. Trust me on this.” The blond paused from his channel surfing to turn to the boy on the bed. “It’s kind like you’re brain damaged from the pox. You have no sense of anything good or bad to watch.” He nodded his head in approval of his own theory. “You’re really lucky to have me here.”

Was he being serious?

Reid turned back to the television set and continued flipping through the channels, every once in a while commenting on what was being shown.

Apparently he was serious.

Caleb let out a sigh as he flopped back down on his bed. There was no point in even trying to watch television with Reid around. At least with Pogue he was mildly entertained playing board games, although he wasn’t about to admit to his brother how much he enjoyed creaming his butt in Monopoly. That would be too pathetic, Caleb concluded to himself.

Looking over to his right, he saw the calendar he had pinned up by his dresser in order to count the days down. It had been exactly one week and three days since he got the chicken pox.

Damn, I still have about a week or more left until this goes away and…

A rumble in the pit of his stomach interrupted his thoughts. Not to mention the dryness of his throat. He hadn’t had anything to eat or drink in a while now and was desperate for anything. A variety of food passed through his mind but he couldn’t pinpoint what he wanted. Then he suddenly remembered the box of popsicles that Pogue had brought him early in the week.

“Reid, could you go get me some ice cream from downstairs?” Seeing that the blond made no attempt to get up Caleb proceeded to whining the phrase ‘Get me ice-cream’ over and over again until he noticed Reid turn the television off.

“Alright already I heard you, be right back,” he mumbled as he walked out the room, slamming the door shut behind him.

“Reid! What the hell man, you’ve been gone for almost thirty minutes!” Caleb then lowered his gaze to his empty hands and frowned. “Where are the popsicles I asked for?”

Tilting his head to one side, he rubbed the side of his neck as a sheepish grin surfaced on his face. “I ate them.” Before Caleb could say anything he reached into his pockets, “But I brought you back the sticks,” he said tossing Caleb the sticky wooden handles from the popsicles. “Have fun,” the blond snickered as he made a reach for the remote control.

Caleb gripped the sticks in his hand, his eyes momentarily flashed black and the sticks disintegrated into ash. Flashing his eyes again, the remote once in Reid’s hand was now in his.

“Hey! Whatever happened to no using,” Reid said mimicking Caleb when he said the last two words.

Choosing to ignore the rambling coming from his brother, and not to mention the fact he ate all his ice cream, Caleb signaled Reid to take a seat next to him. “Hey Reid, how about you stop watching TV and tell me something we learned in school today.” Caleb heard a groan emit from the blonds’ lips but did his best to ignore it. “Do you remember anything from English?”

Reid, without trying for a second to try and remember, shook his head ‘no’.

“How about from History?”

Again, Reid shook his head ‘no’.

“Math?!”

Reid was about to shake his head no again when he stopped in mild action. “Oh wait! I remember something from Math…” he said as his fingers started to tap away at his chin. “Something that starts with an L…” he trailed off as his eyes narrowed in concentration.

“Logarithm?” Caleb asked hoping to jog the boys’ memory.

The boy shook his head as his eyes lit up in remembrance and a smirk appeared on his face. “Yup that busty red headed chick finally told me her name. Laura… or was it Lindsey,” Reid said as he started listing off names that started with the letter ‘L’.

Caleb reached over and grabbed the remote from where he had placed it earlier and handed it back to Reid. “Here.” Seeing the confused look on his face, he rolled his eyes as he said, “It’s what you do best.”

With that, Reid grabbed the remote and turned back to his channel surfing. Caleb laid back and closed his eyes deep in thought; I had no idea having the chicken pox could be so painful.
