Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
How do I BETA read? Usually I read the piece through obviously, catch all the mistakes in spelling/grammar conventions, and point out what can be fixed, should be removed, etc. If anything else, I'll do my best in helping an author get their story on the road they want it in. I'll help one plan their story out, and get the most out of his or her nebulous yet lovingly creative ideas.
Out of the five languages I speak (listed in my profile), I'll BETA only for English and Japanese; my ability to speak in the other three doesn't really extend beyond general knowledge. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
Character/setting descriptions, spelling or grammar (ie, tense inconsistencies, redundancies), story/plot planning, and helping the author keep his or her story as canon as possible, while allowing the freedom of molding the story elements to his or her will. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
While I do my best to check spelling and grammar, occasionally there will be a few that slip my eye. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Stories that'll catch my interests however, are Link/Zelda (Legend of Zelda), Ichigo/Orihime (Bleach), Tidus/Yuna (Final Fantasy X), Phoenix/Maya (Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney), and Diego/Mia (Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney). I also tend to have an AU (alternate universe) preference, especially in the Zelda and FFX fandoms. But I'm open to pretty much anything. |
Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
Anything that openly bashes character(s) for no reason. Because there is no reason to justify character bashing. I don't really like self-inserts or something along the lines of "suck into the universe" that much either. |
