Beta Bio: general description as a beta reader
Hi, I'm Lani, and I've been a member here since Feb. 23, 2007. I've written stories here in RENT, Musicals/Plays and Wicked. My writing style is descriptive and slightly dreamy, though it varies slightly through out my work. This is because I started off writing poetry and crossed over into fiction. You can view some of my poetry in my Rent story "Then Forever."
When I beta your story, I'll automatically edit spelling/grammar/punctuation errors and point out and explain the more complex problems involving characterization, plot etc.
I'm familiar with most of the Broadway fandoms as well as Harry Potter, Friends and Pushing Daisies. |
My Strengths: beta, writing, or reading strengths
I can help you with descriptive adjective/adverb work, as well as characterization. I would especially like to get rid of cheesiness, corniness or anything contrived. I'd work with you to make your story mature and elegant. |
My Weaknesses: beta, writing, or reading weaknesses
I don't write stories that are very long and I'm not great at coming up with brand new plots. I probably will not want to beta an epically long story with 30,000+ words. There are exceptions. |
Preferred: types of entries I prefer over others
Like I said before, I am familiar with almost all of the Broadway fandoms, but I would prefer Rent or Spring Awakening. I also prefer tragedy and drama to humour, angst or thriller, and my favourite pairing is Mark/Roger (both friendship and romance. Only quality counts.) My favourite HP pairing is Harry/Ginny, but I don't mind other pairings.

Would Rather Not: types of entries I do not want to beta for
ABSOLUTELY NO:
-Exceedingly long stories that are not cut up into chapters.
-Disney musicals, Hairspray, Mamma Mia or Legally Blond.
-Crossovers with ANY fandom
-High school/childhood versions.
-Next generation/grown up kids.
-Parodies. I do humour but NOT crack!fic or parodies.
-Rape or male pregnancy or anything very violent. But death by illness or drugs is okay.
-First time writers. There are definite exceptions, but I do have minimum standards in terms of quality. I want to be working with you on mature and intelligent characterization and themes, not basic literary conventions and sentence structure. |
